  • Butch:

what’s this meeting all about? Where is that school district, and why do they need a line of credit?

Just wondering. On a lighter note, anyone receive their Uncle Sam bailout?

  • George Walsh:

The school district in up on the Navajo Nation. Why they need it I don’t know yet, I told a friend who lives in St.Johns about he may have gone. I will see what he says as soon as I hear from him. But I thought it odd that they did not put the Minutes for it up. They always post them the same day. I will find out what I can.
And no bail out for freedom fighters. I did hear this that a group that used the name OCAC which stands for outraged citizens of Apache County is about to get motivated into action and is going to be recruiting residents into action. I heard talk of forming a mobilization system to email everyone of upcoming meeting and residents speaking out. I will know more about that Thursday afternoon. And let you all know what happens at the first meeting.

  • Butch:

Isn’t the Navajo Nation in Navajo County? Sorry I have been leading a sheltered life for over 27 years. :(

  • CarolBEE:

    Butch,

As you can see by the map below, the Navajo Nation runs through Northern Apache Country, Northern Navajo County and Coconino County.

  • Butch:

Thanks for the Geography lesson, always willing to learn. :P

  • CarolBEE:

Your Welcome Butch!! Always love to find the answer!

  • Terry:

    George –
In an earlier posting, you mentioned an alert posting system.
Maybe this is something the OCAC organization can take up?
If not, give us the proper nomenclature for such a system and who we should contact (email) to make our wishes heard.
If the OCAC gets off the ground, add me to the list (tlpier@aol.com).

  • George Walsh:

well I will bring it up at the get together. And it is really nice to see people with a interest in whats happening in their own county. I am glad Carol was nice enough to create this Blog for the residents to have a place to ask questions and get answers.
Thank you Carol from the people we need a hundred more like you.

  • CarolBEE:

This may sound silly….. but with budget cuts woas haunting all branchs of governments, there is a free alert system that several people, businesses and agencies are taking advantage of.

http://www.twitter.com – it is a instant message website that allows people to follow. (ie: I have a twitter account: CarolBEE. I type a message and all of my followers can see it. People are able to go to my twitter page and see my updates or they can have a text message sent to their phone.

This could be the quickest and most affordable way for Apache County to get started. The only cost would be for an employee to spend 5 minutes a day adding a quick post. It would give the county an opportunity to see if this is something that Apache County residents want without the expense of setting up a full email alert system. (no database management, software management, no cost needed!!!)

Here is a quick list of agencies that I found on Twitter:

http://twitter.com/TUHSD_News – Tempe Union High School District
    http://twitter.com/SSEndeavour – USS Spaceship Endeavour
http://twitter.com/BarackObama – President Barack Obama’s tweet account (this site maybe busy… refresh until you get his twitter homepage)

And Check this One Out!!! http://twitter.com/LakeCoCVB – Lake County, Illinois is already on the Twitter Band Wagon!

    What do you think??

  • George Walsh:

Carol that something I had never heard of. But all I was asking the county to do was to via email be will to send a email to anyone who asked to get one. And it would only require sending a email and sending it via “reply all” and it would be mostly for allowing the public to be informed of up coming meeting of which might be of interest to the residents. And the people the were on the email list COULD also be sent a email in case of a local emergency. They would not have to add anything except your email address to the already i n place county email address book. A cheap simple way to get the people involved and informed. If it is like pulling teeth to get them to accept this idea getting them to use a outside system would be even harder. As they are only opposed to this idea for one reason they do not want us to know when a item is to be approved nor do they want the public involved, as all that does is cause them problems getting thing done the good ole boys way of closed doors and backroom deals.

  • CarolBEE:

    George,
I love your idea. I was thinking that the email system will mean that that they would have to maintain a email database. This could mean adding another employee to the county to monitor the system. (delete names when people unsubscribe, answering and forwarding emails that people send in. Of course there may be grants available to the county to help them set up this system.)

It could be propose both ideas and see if the county bites. Since the president, schools and other counties are using Twitter, they may consider it.

It would be great to see them moving forward and improve their communication with the public.

  • George Walsh:

Carol, as always your right on. I like your thought, now do you think between us regulars here could come up with a well worded and thought out suggestion we could send them. If each person in this county that we all know sent a email to the Apache County Manager and Attorney it might show just how many of us use email. But it would take time to force them as they still are gun shy about public involvement. After the St.Johns High School meeting they were shocked at the turnout. And they are afraid it would happened allot more if folks were told of something happening like a public hearing or a special meeting. I like your idea lets put a draft together and work it out. Maybe you could set up a poll and see if readers that don’t post might like the idea. Thank you for taking the time to explain your thought to me (wink) I am sometimes slow this early in the morning.

  • Butch:

I did mention something like that in my letter to the CM. Could be I didn’t word it properly? :?

Happy Valentine’s to all my Concho friends. ;)
